Photographs of Chinese families
Beijing based photographer Huang Qingjun took pictures of Chinese families to document the transformation of the country’s society. Today, we’re lucky to present his photo series called „Family Stuff“ („Jiadang“).
Inspired by photos Huang had made in 2003 for the Chinese National Geography, he began to travel through 14 of the 33 provinces of China over a period of at least 10 years. He took pictures of families in front of their flats, houses, or yurts together with their entire belongings. It was a challenge to explain to the rural population why they should take out their whole material just to take one single picture of them and their possessions. It required many explanations, Huang told us, but nearly all of them agreed.
